In 2005, a computer virus called ‘Pluto’s Kiss’ was introduced as a cause of a massive internet shutdown. The virus effected all the operating systems except for one, Altimit OS, which was the only operating system that was immune to all computer viruses. Two years later everything was restored and the first online game ‘The World’ was released since Pluto’s Kiss. Tsukasa, a player of the game, wakes up in the MMORPG game with slight amnesia not knowing what he had done previously before waking up. While in the game, the Scarlet (Crimson) Knights approach him trying to capture him because they suspect him of working with hackers. He tries to log off out from the game and finds out he’s unable to making him stuck, he then wanders around the game trying to find the answers he’s searching for. As he wanders around The World, he stumbles across a magical item that takes the form of a ‘guardian,’ which promises him protection from any danger but can cause harm to the other players in the game. Later, Subaru, the leader of the Scarlet (Crimson) Knights, and others who have been acquainted with Tsukasa go and help him investigate why Tsukasa can’t log out of the game. They must get to the bottom of the problem before it gets out of hand.

An MMORPG game known as ‘The World’ has been released in the US, which has become very popular over time which had received up to 20 million players online. While playing the game in the real world, Mai and Kasumi heard a mysterious sound then collapsed and was sent the hospital. Mai was the only one who recovered while her friend had slipped into a mysterious coma. Later, Junichiro, the creator of ‘The World’, who later reveals to Mai that six other players across the country had also fallen into a mysterious coma while playing ‘The world’, just like her friend did. One day, a mysterious phenomenon occurred when all monsters in the game become much more powerful than usual and inherit strange abilities. While this is happening, players aren’t able to make any process with their characters. What exactly is the cause of all these people mysteriously falling into a coma? Mai, Junichiro, and a player who goes by the name of Kite who decides to finally get to the bottom of all this.
