The story follows Manga volumes 1-7 then drifts off. Edward and Alphonse Elric had lost their mother so they decided to try to resurrect their dead mother by using the forbidden alchemy. During the attempt, Edward loses his leg and Alphonse loses his body. Edward was able to seal his brother’s soul into a huge suit of armor, with the cost of his arm.
A year later, Edward has two mechanical limbs and Al is still trapped in the armor, they leave their home. Edward is known everywhere as the Fullmetal Alchemist, and him and Al must go on a journey and search for any information on the Philosopher’s Stone, hoping it’ll help them regain their old bodies back. All their hopes and dreams in finding the Philosopher’s Stone, hoping that it’s real. Edward and Al soon find out that they aren’t the only ones looking for the Philosopher’s Stone, and discover there’s more to the stone then they know.

Edward Elric disobeyed the laws and sacrificed his body and soul to rescue his brother, Alphonse, but is now not part of this world. Edward now exists in a world where science replaces alchemy. Edward is struggling at adapt to a country he doesn’t know, and unable to return with alchemy skills. After studying science for two years continues to research other ways of escaping, along with others who resemble many of the people he had left behind.
In his own world, Alphonse has lost his memory about his journey with his brother, and continues to investigate how his brother, Edward disappeared and determined researching through alchemy in hoping to finally reuniting with his brother, Edward.
